Grants Writer for Freedom House

Grants Writer -- Washington, D.C.

Freedom House, a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization, was established in 1941 by Eleanor Roosevelt and Wendell Willkie to strengthen democratic institutions at home and abroad. Freedom House serves as a catalyst for freedom, democracy and rule of law through its analysis, advocacy and action programs.

The Grants Writer will be responsible for planning and administrating a complete proposal writing program including research, writing, presenting, and administration duties. Proposal prospects are considered to be individuals, foundations, corporations, associations and government entities.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Establishing awareness of potentially fundable programs.
* Identifying and researching viable prospects.
* Writing, editing and managing proposals in accordance with grantor standards or requirements.
* Preparing correspondence relating to potential funders and follow-up materials.
* Coordinating successful proposals with appropriate personnel and departments.

Qualifications:

* Completion of a Bachelor’s degree;
* Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience of successful proposal development.

Skills, abilities or competencies required:

* Ability to communicate effectively.
* Ability to write creatively.
* Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and guidelines.
* Proficiency in word processing and tickler filing as it relates to research and proposal writing.
* Familiarity with eTapestry and/or other relationship management applications.
* Knowledge of research principles and administration of grants.
* Ability to work productively with minimal supervision.
* Ability to handle stressful situations.
* Ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
