Corner Day Laborer Organizer
Job Description

MISSION: The Latino Union of Chicago collaborates with low-income
immigrant workers to develop the tools necessary to collectively
improve their social and economic conditions.

JOB DESCRIPTION:The Day Laborer Corner Organizer will work with
street-corner day laborers to promote workplace rights and abuse
prevention in the mostly small and temporary construction industry.
The DLCO will collaborate with workers in creating and implementing
both an internal and an external organizing strategy, focusing on
their civil rights as they pertain to seeking work in public areas.The
DLCO will devote her/his time to collaboration with workers on street
corner hiring sites and a smaller portion of her/his time to the
Center in the Albany Park neighborhood. The DLCO will collaborate with
day laborer leadership, community partners, and other Latino Union
staff.

DUTIES INCLUDE: supporting and integrating workers into the Latino
Union?s civil rights strategy, training and collaborating with workers
on direct action tactics for recovering unpaid wages, creating and
implementing popular education trainings on a wide variety of labor
and immigration issues, creating and implementing strategies to
promote worker leadership, inter-worker collaboration and labor abuse
prevention, and participating and involving day laborers in relevant
advocacy and grassroots immigrant rights movement initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* ?Community organizing and popular education training experience
* Fluency in Spanish and English with strong writing and oral skills
* Experience working with low-income and immigrant populations
* Ability to collaborate and work cooperatively
* Knowledge of and commitment to immigrants? rights and social justice
* Strong communication and facilitation skills
* Dedication and ability to work on a flexible schedule, including
early mornings, some weekends, and some nights
* Volunteer management experience

TIME COMMITMENT: 45-50 hrs/wk, including early mornings
SALARY: Commensurate with experience
